Kara Wassenaar Obituary, Death – The news of Kara Wassenaar’s passing is one that we must report with a heavy heart. At the early age of 53, my mother died away yesterday, March 23, 2024, at 4:48 p.m., accompanied by several members of her family. On Thursday, March 21, my mother was placed on life support, and her condition continued to deteriorate after that.
As of Friday, the medical professionals informed us that she was not showing any signs of improvement and that, due to the fact that her disease is incurable, even if a miracle were to occur and she survived, her quality of life would be awful. Our decision was to spend the day with her and wait for her body to let us know whether or not she was prepared. On Saturday, when my mother started experiencing multiple organ failure and sepsis, it became abundantly evident that continuing to keep her on life support would only serve to prolong her misery that she was already experiencing.
I, together with my brother, my grandmother, and my grandfather, faced the most difficult choice of our lives when we decided to remove my mother from life support and allow her to pass away in a peaceful manner.
At approximately three o’clock in the afternoon, I signed the paperwork to remove my mother from life support. Not only was it the most difficult signature I’ve ever had to write, but it will continue to be so.
They ensured that my mother continued to take all of her pain meds and sedatives in order to keep her comfortable and drowsy. She did not appear to be in any discomfort. While she was surrounded by family and love, we all stood around her, told her how much we loved her, kissed her, and held her hand till she passed away. She was free from any agony because to our presence. My mother had a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for life. For such a long time, she fought with such bravery and ferocity.
There was never a moment when she stopped believing that she would get better and have the life that she deserved. Even while it is extremely upsetting to learn that she will not receive it, we are able to find some comfort in the knowledge that she is no longer experiencing any agony. We shall miss her very much, but we are confident that we will be able to see her again in the future. During this trying time, we would want to express our gratitude to everyone who has reached out to us and provided words of encouragement with us.
Kara’s brief life has allowed her to make an impact on a great number of people’s lives, and we are confident that she will continue to be remembered fondly by each and every one of us. In the month of June, we will attend a Celebration of Life Service in the state of California. I will report back with additional details as we continue to plan this. Instead of sending flowers, the family requests that you consider making a donation to Metavivor, an organization that works to generate funds for research on metastatic breast cancer. Due to the fact that only five percent of research funding is allocated to investigate metastatic breast cancer, which is the only cause of death among breast cancer patients, my mother was very enthusiastic about raising money for this organization and cause.
